Legal issues involving complex financial transactions require experienced attorneys such as Gillespie, Shields & Associates. When a business is owned by the marital community and needs to be divided, or real estate is purchased by the marital community using sole and separate funds such as inheritance — expertise is important. Determining community waste due to gambling, an extramarital affair, pornography, or destruction of community property, necessitates hiring an attorney skilled in handling complex matters. We work with business evaluators, CPA's, computer analysts, and other expects to ensure fairness.

Our professionals understand the challenges associated with the end of your marriage or your desire to adopt a child. We understand your concerns regarding custody of your child(ren) or need for adequate financial support for them. We know an employee's work environment should be safe and free from discrimination, harassment, or retaliation. On the other hand, we can help small-medium size companies avoid the threat of employee complaints by assisting with the implementation of written policies and procedures, standardization, suggestions for in-house training, and other risk management assessments. We want you and your family to have a plan for the future through proper estate planning. We are ready to guide you when legal issues arise and help you pursue your goals.

Family Law and Employment Law

Since 1985, Gillespie, Shields & Associates has built a solid reputation handling divorce and spousal maintenance (alimony), child custody, and support matters, assisting employees in their disputes with employers, and helping employers provide work environments that will minimize the risk of becoming the target of a complaint. Our lawyers are known for their superior representation. We have experience in family law, employment law, and mediation, and our firm was formed by an Arizona Board-certified family law specialist.

Contested and Uncontested Divorce

An uncontested divorce is where a married couple has decided to end the marriage, and have already decided how to equitably divide their personal and/or business property, and/or have come to agreement on custody and visitation issues. In these types of cases, the marital dissolution can usually be accomplished in an expedient, cost effective and mutually respectful manner. We can handle the paperwork and ensure that all your intentions are fulfilled and present and future rights are preserved. A contested divorce is where a marriage may end on a negative note between the parties. Issues such as the best interests of the child(ren), financial support for the child(ren) or spouse, and the division of business property become contested because of disagreements or misconduct on the part of one of the parties. When a divorce is contested, a settlement takes more time, effort and resources. Often, settlement negotiations and/or mediation can bring about a satisfactory outcome. However, litigation may be necessary. Our professionals and para-professionals are skilled and available to help you navigate this contentious route to bring about a fair and equitable resolution.

Our divorce attorneys recognize our clients' right to representation within the parameters of the law. Our mission is to protect our clients by giving them our best advice and providing sound leadership as we seek to obtain reasonable, timely property division, child custody arrangements, and spousal support (alimony) settlements. We work closely with our clients to decide if the best results can successfully be obtained through negotiation or mediation, or whether litigation is necessary. Although it is preferable to obtain resolution in a non-contentious manner, we are prepared to advocate vigorously and aggressively on behalf of our clients, their children, their rights, and their future when it becomes necessary.
